50% WFH or Face Fine: Delhi Mandates New Rule for Firms Amid Air Crisis

The Delhi government on Wednesday mandated all government and private companies to function at a 50 per cent work from home mode amid the air pollution crisis.
Amid the Delhi air crisis, the government has mandated all companies – both government and private – to function at a 50 per cent work from home mode. It has warned that those found violating the directive will face fines.
The capital witnessed one of the worst air quality this season on December 15 when the AQI was recorded at 498 in the 'severe plus' category in the morning. The deterioration of the AQI was in continuation of the preceding day, when the air quality first hit severe and then rose up to the 'severe plus' zone, according to the data by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The crisis made the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) quickly invoke Grap IV – the strictest anti-pollution restrictions – across the capital in hopes of tackling the situation.
According to the latest announcement, the Delhi government will provide a compensation of Rs 10,000 to registered construction workers who are unable to work currently as construction is banned under the current anti-pollution curbs.Blinding smog cascaded down the capital between Saturday and Monday, triggering multiple road accidents, vehicle pile-ups and cancellations and delays of flights. Visibility had reduced remarkably, leading the Delhi airport and all airlines to issue advisories. After three days, Delhi got a marginal breather on Tuesday as stronger winds and thinning fog aided in pushing the air quality levels into the very poor category.
