The Rajasthan government has started transferring a ₹17,000 subsidy to eligible consumers under the 150-unit free electricity scheme, marking two years of the state government’s tenure.
The process has begun with Jaipur Discom and beneficiaries will now see a key change in their power bills.
Once the subsidy is credited, such consumers will stop receiving the earlier 100-unit free electricity benefit from their next bill.
Jaipur Discom covers around 15 districts, and the subsidy distribution process will soon be rolled out across other discoms in the state as well.
150 units of free power through PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Under the scheme, the state government is providing 150 units of free electricity to consumers through the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. At present, only those consumers who are already availing the 100-unit free electricity benefit and who have a permanent roof at their residence are eligible to register for this scheme.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the state government’s initiative around two months ago, following which registrations were opened. Since then, there has been a strong response from consumers across Rajasthan.
1.1 kW solar panel to be free, generates 150 units
Consumers who are currently getting 100 units of free electricity are eligible for a ₹33,000 subsidy from the central government for installing rooftop solar panels. This central subsidy applies to all consumers installing solar panels. In addition, the Rajasthan government is providing extra financial assistance of ₹17,000.
Together, the total subsidy amounts to ₹50,000. With support from both governments, the effective cost of installing a 1.1-kilowatt solar panel becomes zero for the consumer. A 1.1 kW panel can generate around 150 units of electricity per month, which effectively translates into 150 units of free power.
