iPhone 18 Launch Next Year: Apple to Fix Major Issue Seen in iPhone 16, 17

Apple's iPhone 18 lineup is expected to refine controversial design choices from recent models, while introducing meaningful camera, display, and performance upgrades in the Pro series.

Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup, which is expected to roll out next year, could quietly address one of the more debated design choices introduced with the iPhone 16 and continued on the iPhone 17 series. According to a new report, Apple is planning changes to the Camera Control button, a feature that was meant to make photography quicker but ended up dividing opinion among users. Here is everything you need to know.

iPhone 18 launch next year: Apple said to fix a major issue with iPhone 17 and iPhone 16

The Camera Control button, present across iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models, offers fast access to the Camera app and settings. While the idea sounded practical on paper, many users found the swipe-based gestures easy to trigger accidentally. Now, Apple appears to be rethinking how this button works, starting with the standard iPhone 18.

As per The Information, Apple is considering removing the capacitive layer from the Camera Control button on the regular iPhone 18. This means the button would lose its touch sensitivity and haptic feedback, moving to a simpler, pressure-based design. With this change, users would no longer be able to swipe on the button, which should help reduce unintentional inputs, a common complaint since the feature debuted.

The report does not clearly state whether this redesigned Camera Control will also arrive on the iPhone 18 Pro models, but consistency across the lineup would make sense. Interestingly, rumours about a simplified Camera Control button have surfaced before, suggesting this change has been under consideration for some time.
