Sagardighi supercritical thermal power unit to start ops from Dec 10
A new 660 MW “supercritical” thermal-power unit at West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) — located in Sagardighi, Murshidabad — is set to begin operations from December 10, 2025.  It will be the largest power-generation unit in Bengal and the first of its kind in northeast/ East-India region — aimed at supplying electricity to over 16.7 lakh (1.67 million) households.  The project — started in 2020 — has cost over ₹4,567 crore, and is expected to generate around 26,000 direct and indirect jobs once fully functional.
